The SI! Total Health Program is an intervention carried out in schools and is designed to improve knowledge, attitudes and habits in four areas: healthy eating, active living, care of the body and heart, and protection against tobacco and other addictions. The SI! Program covers the pre-school (3-6 years old), primary (6-12 years old) and secondary (12-16 years old) educational stages, and includes an evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
Given that eating and physical activity habits are established at a very young age, schools are essential for promoting healthy habits and establishing protective factors with respect to addictive substances in children and adolescents.
The results obtained with the study of the SI! Program in early childhood education show that it is an effective and feasible strategy to improve eating habits and physical activity among preschool children. It also has an impact on obesity indicators directly related to cardiovascular health. (Peñalvo, J.L.; Fuster, V.; et al. J Am Coll Cardiol. 2015; 66:1525-34)
